Much of the scientific research done at Palmer Station requires the use of small boats. There is a fleet of inflatable “zodiacs” that we use to boat around the area and collect samples. Before you can take the boats out for research, you must be trained in how to boat in the Palmer Station area. In this photo I am in the water in a “dry suit” that keeps the water out. We were practicing what to do if someone falls off the boat. It was a lot of fun, and no water got into the suit!!
