Before leaving Punta Arenas on our boat, an icebreaker named the Laurence M. Gould, I pick up my Extreme Cold Weather clothing (we call it ECW) from the United States Antarctic Program office.  They provide a big bag of warm clothes: hat, gloves, boots, long underwear, pants, jacket, raincoat – everything you need to keep warm and dry in Antarctica.
