A few days in “PA”

The town of Punta Arenas (or “PA”) is located on the southern tip of South America.  It is very windy.  The weather is a little cool (about 50°F), but warmer than the Antarctic will be!  Walking around town I found a chocolate shop which had amazing hot chocolate!  The drive from the airport to downtown was pretty – there were wildflowers and llamas on the side of the road.  The food is very good – they eat a lot of seafood here (fish, shrimp, and SQUID!!).  Many people sell things on the side of the street…food, clothing, and especially new calendars for the year 2010.  Other people on the streets play flute music, which is great to listen to when walking around town.  There is a square in the middle of town with more people selling things, and a large statue.  Legend has it that it is good luck to rub the statue’s toe before crossing the Southern Ocean…of course I did it!
